United by Music, Proudly Secular.

We are The Hyderabad Voices! Our members come from diverse backgrounds, age groups, professions, and life experiences, united by a shared love of music and community. As the only secular choir in the twin cities, we provide a welcoming and inclusive space where people of all religions, beliefs, sexual orientations, gender identities, and expressions can come together in harmony.

We celebrate the richness that diversity brings, fostering an environment of acceptance, respect, and belonging where every voice matters. The choir continues to grow as more people discover our vibrant community and dynamic performances, proving that music has the power to connect, inspire, and bring people together across differences.

One voice,
One community.

One dream, many voices.

The founders of the Hyderabad Voices are Ashrita Arockiam Dsouza and Shakila Dausi. They had been toying with the idea of starting a choir in the twin cities for a couple of years. Finally, January 2024 saw it come to fruition! The Hyderabad Voices came into existence.

Behind Hyderabad Voices is a dedicated team of founders, organisers, and musicians who bring our vision to life. Our passion and commitment help create a welcoming and vibrant space where every voice can thrive. Together, we work to ensure that the Hyderabad Voices remains a place of musical excellence, belonging, and meaningful connection.

Shakila Dausi

FOUNDER

Shakila Dausi grew up in a musical family and started singing before she could speak. After two decades away from Hyderabad, she returned to her roots, joined a rock band, and later found her niche in jazz with Jazzed Friends, the Dennis Powell Collective, Jazz for Joy - a trio with Joe Koster and George Hull. She continues performing jazz and blues with the George Hull Collective. On her return to Hyderabad, she taught music in local schools including Sloka, St John’s School and Mosaica (American International School), teaching fun songs that she enjoyed singing as a child. She sang with the Hyderabad Choral Society, the Festival Choristers and the Deccan Voices. After a brief hiatus, recognizing the need for such a choir again, she collaborated with Ashrita D’Souza and co-founded the Hyderabad Voices.
